  • One additional year granted for 12.1.0.2 Extended Support - New end date July 31, 2022

Oracle Database Release Roadmap

To help you plan ahead, below is a roadmap that captures Oracle Database Releases (incl. annual and patch sets) from 11.2 onward, showing their lifetime support stages (Premier, Extended). For a table with this data including dates, see Table 3 - Patching End Dates below.
How To Interpret The Roadmap
The Roadmap shown below is a visual representation of our past and current release models detailing their  eligible error correction windows within a given Lifetime Support stage (Premier, Extended).  If the Extended Support stage is not show for a release, then no error correction is available for that support period (i.e. Oracle Database 18c is not eligible for Extended Support).  Beginning with 12.2.0.1, we are now releasing a new database annually (i.e. every calendar year).  As designated below, an annual release that will have Extended Support is called the long term support release.

Recommended Upgrade Path

Oracle recommends the following upgrade options:
  • Now that 19c has released on most major platforms, Oracle's stance on upgrading has shifted away from 18c as an option and is now focusing only on 19c.
  • If you are currently running 11.2.x/12.1.x you will need to upgrade to the terminal release for the product you are running and then continue the upgrade process by upgrading to the 19c Database (Long term support release).
  • If you are currently running 12.2.0.1, please upgrade to 19c before the error correction grace period expires.
The purpose of these recommendations is to help you stay within the guidelines of Lifetime Support and Error Correction Policies (allowing you to avoid costly support exceptions), and to encourage you to take advantage of the new features that are available in the latest product releases.
For questions related to certification combinations and Lifetime Support agreements with other Oracle products like Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle JD Edwards, Oracle PeopleSoft, and Oracle Siebel, please contact your Oracle Account Representative.

Patching End Dates for Database 12.1, 11.2, 11.1, 10.2 Releases and Patch Sets
The dates shown in the table below are the dates Oracle will provide patches, PSUs, and CPUs/SPUs for Database versions 12.1 and earlier on all platforms. A full description of the patching policies is given in Database, FMW, EM Grid Control, and OCS Software Error Correction Support Policy (Doc ID 209768.1). The LSP and patching end dates are as follows unless noted otherwise in Table 2 - Database Release Schedule above.

Beginning with Release 12.2. Instead of Patch Sets, Patch Set Updates, and Database Bundle Patches, new releases are maintained with Updates and Revisions. For more information see Update and Revisions for Database Proactive Patch Program (Doc ID 2285040.1).
Releases 12.1 and earlier: Patch sets were released periodically. For Database 11.2 and 12.1, the terminal (last) patch set has been released. Proactive patches such as Patch Set Updates (PSU) are released only on those terminal patch sets.
